Today 12 students from TPPS traveled to Aquanation in Ringwood to participate in the EMR Swimming Championships. We achieved some fantastic results, with many swimmers finishing with personal best times. The students should be very proud of their achievement in making it to this stage. Well done boys and girls!
Earlier this term, TPPS received a grant from Sporting Schools to promote softball within our community. With this money, we have been able to purchase equipment to kit out a second inter-school team and have also been able to appoint the services of Softball Victoria to run clinics for our Grade 1 - 3 students. These clinics will be running over the next three weeks. Today 1P and 1F had the opportunity to participate in their first clinic, where they had the opportunity to practise their throwing, catching and striking skills.
Today, 12 TPPS students headed to Aquarena to participate in the Manningham Division Athletics Carnival.
First events were the 4 x 50m Freestyle relays, in which TPPS had two teams. The 12 year old boys team, consisting of Jack M (6L), Cooper E (6L), Evan H (6M) and Jaxon V (6M), started off well, with Jaxon swimming home hard to bring the boys into second place. Not to be outshone, the 11 year old boys team, including Max H (5A), Matt K (5Y), Abraham L (5A) and Alex C (5K), were equal to the feat and also finished in second place. Alex also showed his prowess in the individual races, taking out first place in the 50m butterfly and freestyle events, whilst Cooper came third in the 50m backstroke. To conclude the day, we had two teams compete in the 4 x 50m Medley relays. The boys team of Abraham, Cooper, Alex and Jaxon finished off strong and finished in a commendable fourth place, just getting touched out by third. The most nail biting event of the day was last, with Katie J (6M), Olivia V (6M), Davinia F (6M) and Sahra C (6L) coming from behind to finish a close second in the Girls Medley Relay. Well done to all the boys and girls for their efforts. Students who finished in the first two places will be swimming at the Eastern Metropolitan Swimming Championships on Friday 17th March. The TPPS Founders have had a fantastic first month of PE lessons and have started to show improvement in their skills. Over the next couple of weeks, they will be learning to throw and catch bean bags.
Today Cooper E (6L), Curtis S (6L), Baxter E (4K) and Samantha K (6T) participated in the Templestowe District Tennis Tournament at St Kevin's Tennis Club. It was a fantastic day full of high quality tennis. After winning both their pools, Cooper and Curtis faced off in the Boys Final, with Cooper taking home the chocolates in a good spirited contest. Being the lone Grade 4 on the day, Baxter also held his own, finishing third in his pool and just missing the semi-finals. Samantha also had a fantastic tournament, winning her pool and coming Runners-Up in the Girls Final.
Congratulations to all students on their efforts. For making the final, Cooper, Curtis and Samantha have earned an invite to participate in the Manningham Division Tennis Tournament to be held at Serpell later this term.
