Today the Netball A, Netball B, Soccer and Football teams played in the Templestowe District Winter Interschool Sport Grand Finals. Firstly the Netball A team played against Our Lady of the Pines and the girls put on a good show, defeating their opposition 38 - 12. Backing up the A team's performance, the Netball B team also had a convincing win, beating Serpell 21 - 7. The Soccer team also had a tough tussle with Serpell, unfortunately losing 2 - 1 after a nail biting finish. Finally, the undefeated Football team were not strong enough for Anderson's Creek Primary School, losing 16 - 41 in front of a packed crowd.
Congratulations to all of these teams on their exceptional seasons and good luck to the Netball A team who will be representing the Tempelstowe District at the Manningham Division Championships in Term 3. This afternoon, the TPPS Soccer Championships Grand Final was held on the Templestowe Park back oval. The match pitted 6L and 6T against each other to see who to determine the champion class.
The first half was a tight affair with both teams' attacks being thwarted by goal keepers Jack B (6L) and Ayden I (6T). However, in the dying minutes of the period, Oscar J (6T) was able to score a scrappy goal sending 6T into the main break with a 1-0 lead. 6L started the second half strongly and were able to keep the ball in their forward half, including many shots on goal. Finally, the floodgates opened with Pete M (6L) finding the back into the net a mere minutes before the full time whistle, sending both teams to a penalty shoot out. The advantage see-sawed back and forth throughout the shootout, with 6T finishing as victors four penalty goals to three. Well done to all students on a fantastic tournament. Mr Mathew and I look forward to next term's tournament. I wonder which sport we will be playing? On Tuesday 13th June, 15 students ventured to Yarra Glen Racecourse to participate in the Manningham Division Cross Country Championships. All students put in a fantastic effort to complete the taxing course. Well done all students on their fantastic results:

During these clinics, students have learnt the passes, shooting technique, rules and tactics required to be successful in netball. We were able to acquire Lee's services thanks to a grant obtained from the Sporting Schools initiative. With left over funds we have also been able to purchase new netball rings and equipment to assist with the development of netball in the school community.
Next Tuesday, 16 students will be representing TPPS at the Division Cross Country Championships. For the past month they have been braving the cold and heading to school early on Friday mornings for training. They have shown a lot of dedication in their preparation for the event and no doubt will impress us all.
The TPPS Soccer Tournament has been a roaring success, with all Grades 4-6 completing their first round of matches, determining our Semi-Final match ups which will be held next Friday 16th June. The first match will see 6T pitted against 5Y, followed by 5K against 6L. The winners of the two Semi-Finals will play in the Grand Final on Friday June 23rd to determine which class is victorious.
