Today four lucky classes had the opportunity to participate in Foxtel's Tim Cahill Academy on Templestowe Park's back oval. The clinics were delivered by Englishman Robbie Anderson who has spent decades coaching the likes of Wayne Rooney and Tim Cahill at Everton Football Club. Students had plenty of fun learning the skills and activities that are practised in English Premier League Development Academies. Thanks to Foxtel and Robbie for providing our students with such an excellent opportunity.
During Term 3, all classes in Grade 4-6 participated in a basketball tournament. Two separate tournaments, boys and girls, were held to determine which classes were victorious. Today the Grand Finals were played with 6T defeating 6M in the girls division and 6L defeating 5K in the boys. Mr Mathew and I have been very impressed with the skill and pride shown over the past term and we are looking forward to Term 4's Rounders Tournament.
Today 65 students represented TPPS at the Templestowe District Athletics Carnival. TPPS was represented by a very strong contingent split into six teams; All-Star Boys, All-Star Girls and four Future Stars teams. The seniors continued the success of the junior hoop-timers with five out of six teams making their way to the finals. The All-Star Boys team won a tough semi-final which went down to wire, before losing a nail-biting final after heading into the main break 2 points up. However, the All-Star Girls made up for that loss with a dominating win on the adjacent court. Finally, the Future-Stars Final was an all Tempy Park affair, with the Grade 6 Penguins edging out the Grade 5 Patriots in a spirited affair. Congratulations to the All-Star Girls and TPPS Penguins teams who have been invited to participate in the Hoop Time Regional Finals in Term 4.
Today 20 students from Grade 6 Participated in Fair Go, Good Sport Day at the Vento Club. Fair Go Good, Sport Day is an initiative created by the Manningham Council to promote participation, good sportsmanship and respect in sporting environments. Students had the opportunity to participate in football, soccer, bocce and dodgeball clinics, whilst intermingling with students from five other schools from the City of Manningham. Clinics were ran by experts in their field including members of the Dodgeroos and 1970 Brownlow medallist Peter Bedford! It was a great day for all involved and TPPS look forward to sending students to Fair Go, Good Sport Day for years to come.
Today 54 students from Grade 3/4 participated in the Junior Hoop Time Round-Robin Day at Nunawading Basketball Stadium. Students of varying ability were split into six different teams; All-Star Boys, All-Star Girls, three Future Stars teams and a Rookie team. All teams played a minimum of four group games plus finals and consolation games. Templestowe Park had a very successful day with four out of five teams making the finals and the Templestowe Park Thunder future Stars team winning their way into the Grand Final. The final was a tight affair with Tempy Park losing by 2 points after missing a few shots in the dying seconds. Mr Mathew, Mrs Eddy, Mr Roberts and myself would like to congratulate all students for displaying resilience, optimism and school pride throughout the day. We now look forward to the Senior Hoop Time Round-Robin Day at Knox Basketball Stadium on Wednesday 13th September.
