The last couple of days have been huge for girls basketball at TPPS, starting with yesterday's Senior All-Stars Regional Hoop Time. The girls started of strongly, winning convincingly against St Anne's (32-3) and Kind David School (14-11), before losing an early lead to lose against Boronia Heights in their final pool game (16-22). Finishing second in Pool 2, they played against the winners of Pool 3 in the Semi-Finals. The girls lifted their game against Hawthorn West, with some savvy team-work and clutch shooting, giving themselves a 14-10 victory and a place in the State Qualifying Finals against MLC. Undersized compared to their Grand Final opponents, the girls had to be on top of their game if they wanted to win and unfortunately an after the siren foul shot from MLC forced the game into overtime. To their credit, TPPS didn't let this dishearten them and saved their best basketball for the final three minutes, winning 16-11 and booking a spot in the Hoop Time State Finals on Tuesday 28th November.
Following yesterday's success, today the girls played in the SSV Eastern Metropolitan Regional Finals, which contained all the Division champions in Melbourne's East. The girls flew out of the blocks in the first game against St Jude's, but unfortunately conceded a 10 point lead to lose on the buzzer 23-22. Following the disappointment of a close loss, the girls showed great resolve and were too strong for Belgrave South winning 26-12. TPPS's final pool game was against Camberwell South who had defeated our girls in the equivalent netball fixture earlier in the year. The girls played a perfect game to defeat their previously undefeated opponent 12-23. This left a long wait as only one team from the pool could progress to the final and three teams finished on the same amount of points, however, due to their superior percentage, TPPS faced Yarra Road in the final. The girls played great basketball during the tight game, with the margin never exceeding four points, but unfortunately they fell short 20-19 after a very nail-biting finish, being named Runners-Up in the Eastern Region. I couldn't be prouder of the girls who played in both teams. The spirit, positivity and fight they bring to the court is inspirational and they are an absolute pleasure to coach.

Today the TPPS Penguins participated in the Senior Future Stars Hoop Time Regional Finals at Kilsyth Basketball Stadium. In their first three pool games, The Penguins displayed excellent teamwork to easily dispatched of Milgate (26-12), Doncaster Gardens (17-13) and Birmingham (17-11). They had a much tougher fourth game, losing to Ringwood North (9-18), however, The Penguins were able to finish off their final pool game strongly against Chirnside Park (24-11). Finishing second in their pool, they now had to play against the second place finisher in the other pool (St Luke's Lakers) to book a place in the State Finals. The Penguins had to work hard against the Lakers, trailing for much of the second half before equalising the score 13-13 by the final buzzer, forcing the game into extra time. The Penguins saved their best basketball for the end of the day, pulling away from the Lakers to book a place in the Hoop Time State Finals on Friday 30th November.
Today TPPS girls and boys teams played in the Templestowe District Basketball Tournament.
Firstly, the girls breezed through their pool games, defeating Warrandyte (24-0), Serpell (12-0) and Milgate (16-2), earning a place in the Semi-Final. After an easier start to the day, they faced a very strong Templestowe Heights team and had to work hard for a 10-7 victory. In the Grand Final the girls were far too strong for OLOP, winning 16-3 and setting up a Division Final against Doncaster Gardens to be played next week. The boys headed into the afternoon with a tough road ahead of them, being undersized and undermanned in comparison to many of their competitors. To their credit, they managed to take it to every team they played against winning two pool games (11-4 against Warrandyte and 9-7 against Milgate) and losing one (10-13 against Serpell) to earn a spot in the Semi Final. Unfortunately the boys fell two points short against OLOP bringing their day to an end. Today Templestowe Park Thunder participated in the Future Stars Hoop Time Regional Finals. They had an excellent day, getting through the group stage undefeated against three very competitive teams. The Thunder saved their best basketball for the final, defeating Birmingham Primary School in 13 - 0 and earning a place in the State Finals to be played on Thursday November 30th. This marked the perfect start for Templestowe Park's Hoop Time Regional Finals campaign, with two more days coming up in the next month. Good luck to all students and hopefully we can have a couple more teams joining The Thunder in the State Finals.
