Today 48 students in Grade 5/6 ventured to Booroondara Sports Complex to participate in the School Futsal Titles. The day was filled with action, with all students being able to participate in at least five matches against schools from the local area. The titles were made up of three divisions; Grade 6 Boys, Grade 5 Boys and Grade 5/6 Girls, TPPS entered two teams in each of these competitions. The Grade 6 Boys teams fought valiantly and showed excellent sportsmanship, but unfortunately were not able to win enough games to earn a place in the finals. Both Grade 5 Boys teams were made up of experienced and beginner Futsal players, with one team going through the pool undefeated to earn a place in the Grand Final. Additionally, both of our girls teams impressed with their fancy footwork, earning a place in the grand final. In the Grade 5 Boys Grand Final, TPPS played against Blackburn Primary School. Tempy Park got off to a blistering start, with two goals in the first few minutes, however, Blackburn were able to score three goals in quick succession to take a 3-2 lead into half time. The second half was a tight affair, with many shots on goal being saved by some clever goal keeping. Fortunately with three minutes to go, TPPS were able to score an equaliser and were able to find the back of the net again with only 30 seconds to go, clinching the championships! The Girls Final was a sea of blue and orange, with Tempy Park Grade 5 taking on Tempy Park Grade 6, an amazing accomplishment considering all students were beginners to the sport. It was a pleasure watching the girls take on the day with such school pride and respect for their opposition. Unfortunately there could only be one winner, with Grade 5 girls scoring an upset 4-0 victory to win the championships. Well done to all students who participated on the day and thanks to Mr Karageorgiou, Mrs Twyford and the parents who came to lend their support on the day.
