After a successful day of basketball on Monday, the 5/6 girls basketball team headed back to The Rings Basketball Stadium to participate in the Senior All Stars Hoop Time Regional Finals. It was a day of very high level basketball, with all schools on the day entering very strong teams.
To make it through to the qualifying games, we needed to finish in the top two teams in the very competitive Pool B. Our first pool game was up against basketball specialist school, Yarra Road. The girls had a slow start, missing a few shots against a very strong outfit and unfortunately were not able to recover, being defeated by a very respectable five points thanks to some strong defensive efforts by Chanel Dayoub and Jasmine Farini. Our opponents for the second pool game were Montrose Primary School and unfortunately we had another slow start to the game and were trailing by four points with only a couple of minutes to play. In what was a very intense final period of play, Lilly Scaffidi and Ruby Puls were let of the leash and managed to get us over the line by two points. In our third game we were too strong for Seville Primary School, with Ashton Simmons, Sahra Cox and Hayley Jordan leading us to a seventeen point victory and booking us a qualifying final berth against the undefeated, first place finishes in Pool A, Monbulk Primary School. Credit to our girls, they saved their best basketball for last, playing some very smart basketball and thanks to some clutch foul shooting in the dying seconds by Annabel Krienke, they were able to hang onto a two point victory.
Congratulations to the girls for earning a place in the Hoop Time State Championships which will be held at Dandenong Basketball Stadium on Tuesday November 22nd.
