Yesterday, all students in Grades 3-6 participated in the TPPS House Athletics Carnival. Students participated in a variety of track and field events, vying for the House Athletics Shield and a place in the TPPS Athletics team. It was a fantastic day for all involved with many smiles being seen all around the track. I couldn't be prouder of all students involved for showing great sportsmanship, responsibility and resilience throughout the day. Congratulations to everyone on their efforts, especially the students who have made the TPPS Athletics Team which will be participating in the Templestowe District Athletics Championships on Thursday 14th September. This term, students in Grade 1/2 have been participating in a skipping unit. They have skipping as a way to improve their fitness, as well as learning some fancy tricks in both short ropes and long ropes. I have been very impressed with their persistence and resilience throughout the unit and have seen plenty of improvement. Next week they will be creating skipping routines that they will perform to the rest of the class.
Today TPPS hosted the Manningham Division Girls Soccer Final, with our girls taking on Doncaster Gardens PS. Played in the wet, the game was a very tight tussle from the opening whistle with both teams having limited shots on goal in the first half. After a nil all score line at half time, the game opened up in the second half with both teams increasing their shots on goal. At the ten minute mark of the second half, Doncaster Gardens broke the deadlock finding the back of the net, with TPPS striker Ava B (5K) replying straight afterwards with an equaliser. After another five minutes of tight play, Doncaster Gardens opened the flood gates to score two goals in the final two minutes, resulting in a 3-1 victory to DGPS. Regardless of the result, I couldn't be prouder of the girls for giving it their all until the final minute.
