After Monday's success at the 3/4 All-Stars Hoop Time Finals, I still had two more days at Dandenong Basketball Stadium and two more teams to coach to cap off a very exciting week for Templestowe Park Primary School.
On Tuesday 22nd November, I had the honor of the coaching the Senior All-Star Girls team, made up of a talented group of Grade Fives and Sixes. The girls played superbly well through the group stages making their way through with three clutch wins and one gallant defeat against recently crowned state champions St Martin of Tours. Finishing second in the pool, the girls earnt themselves an elimination final against St Luke's Primary School. The girls came out of the blocks fast and headed into the main break with a solid lead, regardless of some key players being in foul trouble. Unfortunately they were not able to hold on in the second half, with the opposition hitting a clutch three-pointer at a crucial time. The girls were disappointed in the result, however, they should be very proud of their efforts in making the Final 12 teams out of 440 entries. Today I took stood courtside one last time to coach the Templestowe Pacers Junior Future Stars team made up of a very determined group of Grade Four boys and girls. Sadly, a couple of our players had become ill over the pst few days and were not able to play on the day, however, this would not take away from the team's endevour. In the group stage, The Pacers played against Aitken, Sassafras and St Oliver Plunkett Primary Schools. Unfortunately, the undermanned team was not able to walk away with a win, regardless or their grit and determination. After finishing bottom of the pool, the boys and girls had a consolation game against Yarra Road Primary School and were able to turn their form around - working superbly well as a team and hitting crucial baskets to walk away with a win. They displayed fantastic sportsmanship throughout the day and should be elated for making the final 32 teams out of 740. Well done to all the boys and girls who performed gallantly in the 2016 State Hoop Time Finals and thanks to all the family, friends and staff who assisted along the journey. I am looking forward to Templestowe Park building on this year's success in 2017.
