Today, all students in Grade 4-6 participated in the 2018 TPPS House Swimming Carnival. It was a fun day for all involved, with students swimming in a variety of 50m, 25m and novelty events to earn points for their house. the lead changed throughout the day, however Chivers ended the day on top for the second year in a row. The culmination of the event was a hotly contested 6 x 50m student vs teacher relay, with the students winning by the smallest of margins. Congratulations to all students for starting off the year on a fantastic note and good luck to all those students who have been chosen to represent the school at the Templestowe District Swimming Carnival on Friday 23rd February.
Today TPPS played in the Manningham Division Girls Rounders Final against Doncaster Gardens. The match was a one sided affair with TPPS dominating from the very first pitch and eventually winning 27-0. This has capped off a phenomenal year of Interschool Sports with TPPS winning Manningham Division Finals in Girls Rounders, Girls Basketball, Girls Netball and Boys Softball. Congratulations to the current Grade 5/6 students for all their sporting successes in 2017.
This week has been very busy for myself, with three teams participating in the State Hoop Time Finals at Dandenong Basketball Stadium.
The Senior All Star Girls were first up on Tuesday and had a good run through the group stage, defeating St Brigids (12-5), South Yarra (15-9) and Robert McCubbins (20-6) and drawing with St Mary's Sale (14-14), placing them at the top of their pool and setting up a Quarter Final showdown with Boronia Heights, who they lost to at the Division Finals. Unfortunately their opponent was again too strong in the first half, running out their game with a 17-9 victory, placing the girls in the top 8 of 483 teams in Victoria. The Junior Future Stars followed up the girls' excellent performance on Thursday. Templestowe Park Thunder also had a successful group stage winning against Heidelberg (10-8) and Greythorne (6-2), whilst losing to Oatlands (10-6), setting up an Elimination Final against Heathmont East who they lost to on the Round Robin Day. The game was a low scoring affair, with both teams playing excellent defence, however, The Thunder were able to flip their past result, winning 4-2. Unfortunately, in the Round of 16 TPPS were no match for Officer, losing 6-19, placing them in the top 16 of 814 teams in Victoria. Finally, the Senior Future Stars played on Friday and had a mixed bag of group stage results walking away with one win against Scots (12-6), one draw against Weeden Heights (7-7) and one loss against Boronia Heights (10-7), earning them an Elimination Final clash against the higher ranked Woodlands. The Penguins saved their best basketball for this clash, leading from the start and holding onto a 9-6 victory. Similarly to the Thunder the previous day, The Penguins were outplayed by their Round of 16 opponent Beaconsfield, losing 23-5 and placing them in the top 16 of 985 teams. This marks the end of another successful year of Hoop Time for Templestowe Park. As always, it has been my pleasure to support all students who participated in the Round-Robin Days and those who made it all the way to the State Finals. Thanks to all the students for being a pleasure to coach and to all the parents who helped with transport and scoring, in addition to cheering the boys and girls on. I am looking forward to another successful Hoop Time campaign in 2018!
Today all students in Grade 4 braved the heat to ride or walk to Westerfolds Park for a picnic to celebrate the end of the Bike Education Program. Congratulations to all students on such an amazing week, with the majority of the children improving their riding and everyone displaying their best attitude and effort. This week all students in Grade 4 have been participating in an intensive Bicycle Education Program. In addition to practising a variety of bike skills, they have also learnt about bike safety and road rules. We have seen drastic improvement from the majority of the students and would like to applaud them all for their optimistic attitudes. They are all looking forward to tomorrow's bike ride to Westerfolds Park.
Today Tempelstowe Park played Serpell in the Girls Rounders and Cricket Finals. The TPPS rounders girls came back from a slow start to win a very exciting match 10-6 to take home the premiership, whilst the cricket boys put in a gallant effort against Serpell to just fall short 64-79. This brings to an end what has been a very successful year of Templestowe District Sport for TPPS with the following teams making grand finals:
