Yesterday, the 5/6 Future Stars team traveled to The Rings Basketball Stadium to participate in the Senior Hoop Time Regional Finals. All students were very excited for what would be a day of very high quality basketball.
In their first game, the Templestowe Park Taipans came up against a very slick Our Lady of the Pines outfit and even with partners in crime Alice Donald and Georgia Warren working well in tandem, the opposition were just too strong, winning by 5 points. In their second game, the boys and girls found some form, with Kyle McCall-Ong, Curtis Sharp and Ethan Crane leading the team to a comfortable win against Ashburton. In the following game, Tempy Park had a tough match against Croydon Hills and were trailing well into the second half before a dominant display of rebounding and shooting from Olivia Virtanen, sealing a much needed win. In the final pool game of the day, a victory was needed to secure a top two finish and a berth in the finals. In a dominant display, the team ran away victors against Camelot Rise thanks to multiple Jack Middleton and Archie McIntyre fast breaks. After navigating their way through the group stage, the Taipans now had a mammoth task ahead of themselves, taking on the undefeated Research Primary School for a place in the State Finals. Feeling the nerves in the first half, the boys and girls started off slow and went into the break at a seven point deficit. Research had a clear height advantage and were out-rebounding their opponents at all opportunities. In the second half, the tide started to change, as Rachael Sanderson hit consecutive long range shots to bring Tempy Park within 3 points. Unfortunately, the final siren came a few seconds too early and the boys and girls just fell short. All good things must come to an end and the all students should be proud of what has been a very successful campaign. Today, the 3/4 Future Stars team had their Regional Finals at the Dandenong Basketball Stadium. The Templestowe Park Pacers had to finish in the top three of Pool 7 to win their way into a Qualifying Final. In their first two games, Templestowe Park were too strong for Darnum and St Ita's Primary Schools. Throughout both games, Jade Hall, Charlotte Nimmo and Parker Dixon's defensive efforts were exemplary and Max Van Den Hout and Renz Houwen's rebounding too strong for the opposition. In their final pool game, Tempy Park played against the also undefeated Woodland Warriors to see who would take the top spot in the group. In a see-sawing affair, the Warriors won in a very tight affair, regardless of strong efforts from Kara Allen and Eleni Kyriakopoulos. This resulted in TPPS finishing second in their pool. Next up, The Pacers were to take on the Cardinia Cavaliers in the Qualifying Final for a place at the State Finals. From the get go, Tempy Park were far too strong for their opponents, with Matthew King and Darcy Stark sharing the scoring in what could be described as a dominant display. They had an eight point advantage at half time, which was never challenged in the second. Congratulations boys and girls, you will be participating at the State Finals to be held at Dandenong Basketball Stadium on Thursday 24th November, an absolutely fantastic achievement!
